Compatible with most available bumpers The Poison Spyder JK Body Mounted Tire Carrier is designed to work with all Poison Spyder rear bumpers, the stock Jeep JK Wrangler rear bumper, and most aftermarket rear bumpers that do not include an integrated spare tire carrier. This versatility allows the user to mix and match components to achieve the perfect look and functionality for his or her Jeep. It also provides an upgrade path for those who would like to upgrade to a heavy duty spare tire carrier in the near term, but is not ready to install a whole new rear bumper. That can be done at a later date with no compatibility issues in most cases.
Engineered to accomodate up to a 40" spare tire Note that we didn't just say it will FIT up to a 40" tire. We've also designed the necessary strength and adjustability features into the tire carrier to safely and easily work with large, heavy tires.
Full height latch plate The latch plate on the driver side of the tire carrier, where the carrier latches when closed, is designed as a full height, single piece rather than two separate assemblies. This helps spread out loads the tire carrier might exert on the Jeep's body not only during normal use but also in off-road situations.
Internal strengthening brackets While hinge side of the assembly is already reinforced from the factory to support the stock tailgate and spare tire, the panel on the driver's side where the latch plate attaches doesn't have the same strengthening from the factory. To remedy this, Poison Spyder has designed upper and lower internal strengthening brackets to help distribute the loads to the heavier duty internal components of the Jeep's body tub, rather than just hanging the components onto the Jeep's flimsy exterior sheet metal.
